Time for a cold one. Any big plans for the weekend?

I’m still recovering from my wisdom tooth extraction, and I’m not allowed any carbonated beverages or alcohol, so that pretty much rules out beer. Not exactly sure when I can go back on it, but Monday will be a week.

High school football tonight with my boys in the marching band, and watching some football, F1, and Bledisloe Cup rugby, but that’s about it.

Y’all be safe.

Working nights. After last night, I’m not feeling it. As can be plainly seen by me having Kraft Dinner and bacon for dinner.

On the plus side, someone gets to find out the true meaning of play stupid games, win stupid prizes tonight, so that’s a plus!

I am trying to make like a shepherd and get the flock out of here so I can go get set up for Halloween. Our 19th annual display has been months in the making. I’ll also hopefully be sampling the punch for tomorrow night’s party.

I think I am going to compression test my engine tomorrow so I’m slightly fearing that.

At least the CEL I got the other day and subsequent stalling was just a vacuum hose that blew of the boost controller. That’s probably all of my good fortune right there

It is Friday. I just started a new job this week working 12 hour graveyard shifts. Had one shift on Wednesday thus far and I am still recovering. Next work night is Saturday night . S cheduled for 4 days next week , though more may be added as needed.

It’s a 1.5 mile walk to and from the facility, which means I’m on my feet for at least 13 hours per work day. The car is with my better half so I am hoofing it. Was about to buy a bike earlier this week until Oppo talked me out of the one I was considering. The used bike market is in shitshow shape around here. I may end up with a Walmart BSO special to turn that 30 min walk into a 10 min ride , if I actually make it to an area with a Walmart in the near future.

I am not certain that my 43 year old widebody chassis is prepared for this, but what doesn’t kill us something something.

Anyway... I have a liter of Johnny Walker Black Label to keep me company.

Oh, and I learned a thing this week. Walked to the Duty Free shop on the border, in the rain . Not an inconsequential trip. Found they were selling 1.5 liter bottles of JWB for $40! Then found that they wouldn’t sell to me unless I was actually traveling to Canada. I wrongly assumed they could just charge me tax, but apparently that is not the case. So I grabbed a 1l when I was in Bellingham for roughly $70. Unimpressed. The scotch is pretty good though. Came “home” Thursday morning after stopping for breakfast and had a 10am glass of booze with my ibuprofen before passing out for the better part of 2 days.

God help me.

Thinking back to my own wisdom teeth extraction a couple of years back, I was quite sure that I was drinking during recovery. Maybe I was told and forgot. That and cannabis worked a lot better than the tramadol they prescribed - I figured a medication that came with a multi-page warning about the dangers and addictive nature of opiates would be strong, but that stuff basically did nothing for my pain (which was pretty bad for several days afterwards). I was diligent about irrigating the wound, changing gauze when needed, etc. so luckily it all worked out.

For the weekend: F1, and just being lazy. I came back to work for a few days this week after being off for a few weeks (just taking vacation time that I can’t carry over anyway) and yet I don’t feel rested and my distaste for work remains the same as pre-vacation levels. Normally a big trip abroad is my “recharge” but I feel like I’ve been burnt out and depressed for the majority of 2020.

Made myself a bacon/egg/cheese sandwich for lunch and it was fantastic. Might do it again for dinner if I remember to cook after my vodka appetizer.

I may have missed if you responded with your height and true ‘on tippy toes with a seat jammed between my legs’ inseam.

Multiple of us c ould’ve been happy to make sure you got a bike this week. Even if it meant spending $50 on bikeflights.com to get something from a larger market shipped.

You do not want a vintage French bike. My post was tongue in cheek and only existed to give a few people here a rise at the cheek of it all.

Was quite pleased with the decision to buy a cake for personal consumption this weekend . Then I saw Farcy posted and it reminded me of all the mouthwatering cakes he’s posted. That demoralizing thought spiraled into realization I just can’t compare with European bakeries. Then I remembered he’s Dutch and how much worse than the rest of the Continent their food is. Now my cake doesn’t taste as good as it might’ve.

Sorry, I never did reply with an accurate measurement. I don’t have a tape measure handy as all of my stuff (including my bikes) is currently in storage in Canada, while I am not.

I want to say it was 34" flat footed the last time I measured, but that is from memory.

The reality is that the Peugeot paint scheme had drawn me in and the size seemed right, but you and everyone else were bang-on that the asking price was double what it should have been. It was good advice and I needed it. I took you seriously when you advised against buying a French bike however, especially of that particularly eclectic vintage. When issues arise, and they will, I’d almost definitely regret the purchase.

I’ve been perusing CL and FB marketplace but it’s slim pickings. Either they’re obviously too small or the ask is just too high for something that will be chained up outside in the elements for 12+ hours at a time unattended. Especially when I’ve been searching the bus-accessible offerings only. If I wanted a rusty BSO @ msrp, a fixie, a cruiser, an 80's Schwinn, or a multi-thousand-dollar FS rig I’d be styling though.

Hopefully giving the lawn one last mow, since its getting to be almost cold enough to stop growing. And then grudgingly starting on painting in the smoking room, if I can get someone to take the table and chairs that are in there so I don’t have to work around them.

What about this XL Schwinn Fixie?

Has a flip flop hub so you can fit a $15 single speed freewheel. That’s basically the definition of mechanical simplicity and reliability to get you a couple miles on either end of a 12 hour shift.

I was hoping for a little more gear range, but the price is definitely right and I really don’t have any hills to contend with on this particular route. A definite maybe. Thanks for the referral.
